Another Country Heard From

In my last post I noted the Eco Tourism sight that referenced concerned citizens for development in Belize. I found out that the organization is closed because of the development of tourism and the member's needs to work hard to keep eco tourism as a viable business. I hope that everyone who wants to visit Belize considers booking trips from the people who live in the country and who are concerned about it's healthy environment.
One of the families we met on our trip were from England. They have settled in Placencia and work for a charter service that takes people out to nearby cayes to snorkel. They do not promote the use of flippers because they only encourage people to stand on the coral because of the foot protection. This breaks the corral and destroys the environment. They are very keen on telling visitors about the delicate ecosystems that inhabit the corral reef. They model this by not feeding the fish things like crackers or bread. They respect the natural food chains that are created more than the want to sensationalize the snorkeling for the tourists.
